I’ve had a horrible time with the other tortilla recipes I’ve tried. It was probably me and not the recipe, but still, I was so excited when I made this recipe and it turned out wonderful. I’ve made it with both whole wheat and white flour and they both are delicious. The dough is easy to roll out too. You’ll never want to eat those yucky store bought, hydrogenated oil tortillas again.
Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas ~ makes about 16-20
4 cups whole grain flour (soft white, golden or red wheat)
1 teaspoon salt
1 scant teaspoon baking powder
5 tablespoons oil (put in water)
1 1/2 cup or more hot water (nearly boiling)
mix dry ingredients
add oil to water and then mix with dry ingredients
stir, then knead by hand
cover with plastic and a towel
let set 40-60 minutes
roll out, not too thin, and cook on a skillet on higher heat
they should bubble up and then flip, brown just barely
as you finish each one, stack them and wrap in a towel, it keeps the moisture in.
On a completely different topic, Martha Stewart is holding a contest on her blog and will be featuring several blogs on her blog! Wouldn’t that be amazing!
And Grosgrain is holding yet another gorgeous giveaway! Somehow I don’t think my boys would look quite that cute in it.
Anybody else have too much zucchini? I thought I would try this recipe tonight. I love cream soups and have never made one with zucchini before…..sounds yummy. I won’t be using cream though….probably half-and-half and milk.
My DH was out of town last week, which always means a marathon week of sewing. I have more almost finished. We’ve started homeschool this week, so that has been put on hold. Hopefully I’ll be able to get all those half-done items completed soon. But on to the things I did do!
Linen/Cotton Blend skirt….love the little birdie applique….this was actually started some time ago and I finally finished it. I had to rip it apart because somehow it ended up with a hole. Thankfully it was near the bottom and I just chopped that part off!

Next up is another Round Neck Top by that darn kat….this time with corduroy. I really love this! I would keep it if I had a girl!

Both of these (along with the pieced skirt I had intended for me!) are in my shop.
I promised J a crayon roll a long time ago and I finally delivered. I cut into my Heather Ross for the first time. Love that fabric! (I don’t know what is up with this photo! gotta love Photobucket!)

I also cut into my organic bamboo velour. For those who’ve never sewn with this stuff, it’s so incredibly soft. It’s also really stretchy, which pushes this woven-sewing girl to the edge! The pocket ended up a little wonky because of that, but it still works just fine and I love putting such softness on Happy Baby’s little bottom.

The first isn’t really for “me”, but for some lucky little girl…hopefully mine, someday. I won this sweet dress from Whole Grain Baby. Everything about it is lovely, from the packaging to the cute fabric! She even wrote me a sweet note.

I finally finished some sewing, a dress for me. I was lucky enough to win a yard of fabric from Sew Mama Sew and thought I would see how far I could stretch it. I definitely think it would be better with more, so I could have flared out the skirt a bit, but still, I was very proud of myself. I self-drafted it-not bad for a first dress for me! Sorry for the terrible pictures. Once again, I didn’t get them taken until after dark. The fabric is Heather Ross….I think it’s from her West Hill line.

I haven’t shared any recipes in a while. So much for my good intentions. This recipe for Mexican Lasagne is wonderful! I didn’t use corn, as it makes DH sick, but it was very, very good. I made homemade tortillas for it too. This is the first recipe that actually worked for me and boy, is it yummy. It works for white or whole wheat flour. I’ll post it soon. While I’m thinking about it, the Ranch Dressing is really yummy too. Very simple, but very good. I must confess, though, I’ve never made it with chives, like she insists. I only ever have green onion, so I used that. It’s still very good. Oh…and these are good too. Duh…potatoes…grease….crispy…can’t really go wrong!
A boy can dream, right?

Some of my siblings, watching the fair day’s parade go by…

Happy Baby, hoping someone throws him some CANDY!….
Can’t leave without riding the pedal tractors….

Ooops…I had my camera on the wrong setting…it turned out kind of cool, though. You have to eat cotton candy right before you leave the fair right? Nothing like sugar to calm kids down for bed!…

Fishing…

Getting dirty making sandcastles…

Trying to fly a kite….

Bike Riding….

Walking….

Trying out our new mama-made super hero cape…

terrible picture, as I finished it after the sun went down and needed to get it into the mail. I think it turned out cute though.

And my first tomato from the garden. It’s been a terrible gardening year….it’s nice to finally get something.

to posting. I’ve done a little sewing, but it’s been way too busy to post. No pictures of the sewing, though. It’s been that frustrating sewing, where you end up wishing you had just bit the bullet and either bought the completed item or at least the right materials to make it. I was attempting to make cloth pull-ups for my DS. We ran out of the disposable kind and my frugal self just couldn’t bear to pay the big bucks required to get more. Of course, I didn’t start making them until we were actually all out the disposable ones. That was mistake number one. Mistake number two was trying to do this while I actually should have been getting ready for our camping trip. Mistake number three…..trying to make do. First, I made one out of flannel, because I have lots. But flannel is obviously not stretchy, so it made of a very poochy, hard to get on trainer (yes, I used elastic, FOE, but I couldn’t get it to gather all those layers effectively). I turned to knits next and made a very cute pair of underwear that is absolutely useless as a nighttime trainer. At least that pair is usable.
Next, I decided to try another pattern, just using knits and making it sort of like a pocket, with a sewn in strip of knit inside to hold a soaker. This worked okay. But I only have one yard of PUL, so I was trying to cheap out and re-use some old velcro closing covers I had. By old, I mean my youngest sister used them when she was a baby (she’s 9!). I thought I would just sew the velcro down, so they could be pulled up and down for easy potty trips. But not only are they very hard to get up, since the elastic is shot, but they must not be waterproof anymore because he was wet when he woke up. Now I’m wishing I had just done it the right way in the first place! Anyone have a maker of cloth pull-ups they love? I think I might just break down and buy them!
I’ll post pics later of the more fun stuff we’ve been doing this weekend.
Here are a couple great trainer patterns…it’s not their fault I didn’t use the right materials!:
And here’s a wool one I plan on using:
