Wandering on the web today, I came across this cool tutorial that tells you how to make your own solid perfume. It looks so easy. Now, I haven’t actually done it, so I don’t know how good the essential oils smell, but I’m so excited to give it a try. I love good smelling things.
I recently joined a street team on Etsy. No, this is not some sort of gang. It’s simply a way to join up with other sellers who have something in common so you can help each other, promote each other’s shops, etc. This street team is made up of ladies who are members of the Sewing Mamas Forum. They are a great group of ladies. You should check out some of the amazing stuff they make.
I was finally able to snag my own treasury and filled it with things made by the SewingMamas, plus a few other things I like. You can check it out here.

I’m so excited! I actually won something. I won a gift certificate to Jus Shar Designs. She knits and crochets all sorts of lovely items, as well as other crafts. I’ll post a picture when I receive my prize. Be sure and check out her site!
I finally sewed up the Swing Bag pattern I received at Christmas. I was waiting to get my Chocolate Sunburst Fabric in the mail. Well, it’s finally finished and I’m pretty happy with the result. A little sad too, though. For one thing, everybody who has made this pattern has said repeatedly how easy it was. But I had a few problems with it. So I feel a little dumb. Also, I love, love both of the fabric I used. I have wanted both of them for a long time. But now that it’s all made, I’m not sure it’s really me. I think I’m realizing that a lot of the fabrics I’m drawn to and love, aren’t really ones that I would want to wear or carry. And that makes me sad. I’m kind of a solids, retro, simple sort of girl. And this bag is pretty flowery. But even though I really like simple cords and twills, it’s a whole lot more fun sewing pretty prints. Maybe that’s why I like sewing quilts. Anyway, enough of my whining. I do like the way it turned out, mistakes and all and I like my bird applique, even if I cheated and didn’t do it the proper way at all. I used the drawing found here, though I messed up the feet (don’t look too close!).

I hate it when I have to stop a project halfway through. But my machine could not sew through the 4 layers of twill, 7 layers of fleece, 1 layer of thin canvas and 2 layers of quilters cotton. I don’t know why! So I still have to finish stitching the body to the waistband. I borrowed an older machine of my moms that hopefully will be able to do the job. I’m not sure what I think of it so far. I made a couple of mistakes, the main one being the straps are so close to the top the carrier that I won’t be able to fold the headrest down like I hoped. It is a knockoff of a BabyHawk and I have to say that they are probably worth every penny. They are tricky to make. I’m hoping to get it finished up soon so I can give it a trial run. Like I said, I’ve never really used to mei tei so I’m sure there is probably a learning curve involved.

I have a picture of the back of the carrier, which has a different fabric, but my photosharing site is not cooperating right now.
She’s giving away a quilt! A real quilt! A beautiful quilt! Aren’t the colors lovely! Old Red Barn Co. is giving it away in celebration of 200 posts. You can enter by leaving a comment. Hmmm….that’s a lot to live up to. I don’t think I’ll be able to do a quilt give-away soon. sorry.
Well, I was going to post pictures of my new mei tei. But alas, the card reader is in the office which is currently also serving as a bedroom for Happy Baby. So that will have to wait until tomorrow. As anyone who sews knows, when you start sewing something (purses, aprons, etc) more usually follow the first one. So it is with baby carriers. When I started out, I had no intentions of having a “stash”. I think my first one was a pouch carrier. Then came a mei tei. I didn’t love it and it later found a happy home with a friend, who does give it the love it deserves. Then, the soft structed carrier pictured below. And another pouch. Then a mei tei for another friend, this time a baby gift. Well, I was feeling left out of all this mei tei love, so I decided it was my turn. So now I have four carriers, with at least one in the works and maybe three (blush). If you’re interested in making your own, this is a fabulous tutorial. And check out the Baby Wearing Forum listed in my blog roll. You have to register, but it is a wealth of information. If you do give it a try, don’t say I didn’t warn you……it can be very addictive!
I guess I need to go back to Kindergarten and learn “how to follow instructions”! I got all excited and added my name to the list of women bloggers at The Five Minutes for Mom Blog Party and then realized I did it all wrong. So, yes, I will post more later, once I figure out what that more is supposed to be. In the meantime, check out all the cool blogs you’ll find linked at this site.
Since I still don’t have an iron, I thought I would work on some longies. These are all destined for my Etsy Shop.

I’ve been wanting to buy some of the gorgeous fabric from Joel Dewberry’s Aviaryline for some time, so when the opportunity to get it for a good price came up, I jumped at the chance. I’ve been checking the mail a little more compulsively than usual, hoping it had arrived. I was excited to see my DH bearing a package on Saturday, and even more excited when I saw that it had my name on it. The fabric is even prettier in real life and I already have one thing cut out with plans for lots more. Still waiting on the iron to actually get it sewn. I can’t wait to be able to post some things made from this beautiful fabric.
